Tollywood actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has publicly opposed the deforestation of Kancha Gachibowli, citing environmental concerns. She shared a news report on Instagram, highlighting the potential temperature rise of 1-4 degrees Celsius due to the removal of forest cover in the area. The actress also urged people to sign an online petition calling for the reversal of the land auction decision.

The petition, initiated by local resident Kirti C, stresses the ecological importance of Kancha Gachibowli, describing it as a crucial green lung for Hyderabad. The land, known for its biodiversity, plays a key role in carbon absorption and mitigating climate change effects. The petition argues that clearing the forest for real estate development would not only destroy rich flora and fauna but also worsen air quality and heat levels in the city.

As of now, the petition has garnered 97,740 signatures, urging Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) to halt the proposed auction. Supporters emphasize that environmental conservation is not just a responsibility but a necessity for survival.

The Telangana government recently announced plans to auction 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli, with preparatory work already underway. Trees are being cleared, and the land is being leveled as part of pre-auction procedures.

Meanwhile, protests have erupted, with students and faculty from the University of Hyderabad opposing the deforestation. Demonstrations have escalated, prompting Telangana police to resort to lathi charges to control the crowd.

Environmentalists and activists continue to call for urgent intervention, demanding that authorities reconsider the auction and prioritize ecological sustainability over commercial interests.
